Methods & privacy

Prewritten offline templates and deterministic local calculations. No live AI, runtime model, audio or paid service. The only third-party request is the Google Analytics page-view tag used across the site; your year, country and reactions are not sent to it. Source links open only when you choose them. Your year, optional countries, and reactions stay in page memory and disappear on reload. Only the day/night preference may be saved locally as wp_theme.

World Bank population estimates: exact annual values from born.json; world.json supplies the country catalogue. Growth compares the same series, with its latest available year stated—not a live population counter. The optional UN cross-check uses only pre-projection years from timeline.json. Different series are never spliced into growth. No lifespan prediction.

Birth-year-only ages are approximate: event year minus birth year; actual age may differ by one. Ages 10 and 18 are shown only for calendar years strictly before the current year. Default cards draw from 2000–2024, favoring events after your birth year plus six and balancing categories. Your era favors school/teen years when possible. For recent births, older public events are explicitly before-birth context, never future memories. Earlier anchors remain only in the Credits page. Another moment shows unused modern anchors before repeating; selections are editorial, not a complete or universal life history. Interpretive significance follows each sourced factual sentence.

Country of birth and current country are independent, optional selections. The legacy country API field aliases country of birth. Current country is user-chosen present context only: no residence history, migration, move date or route is inferred. Same-country selection is a single-place story with two labels.

Each country lens uses the requested birth-year start and the latest year at or before the current year available in both that country and the World Bank world series. Growth is (end − start) ÷ start × 100. A missing birth-year or matching endpoint makes growth unavailable; we do not substitute another start year. Direct comparison of two countries uses the same requested start year and the latest common end year available for BOTH countries and the world, never their separate latest dates. All populations are annual estimates; percentages are rounded to two decimals for display. Exact values remain in the local engine, not a public personal ledger.

Geographic outlines: Natural Earth / World Atlas. Approximate capital coordinates and country catalogue: GeoNames (CC BY). These are not personal locations; small territories or coordinates may be missing. No map implies a route.

Population: World Bank · Population, total (SP.POP.TOTL). Independent cross-check: UN · World Population Prospects 2024.
