How it is calculated
Population on your birth date: exponential interpolation between mid-year anchors. Babies born since: each year's population × crude birth rate, for the fraction of the year inside your lifetime — the same for deaths. "People you have shared the planet with" = population at birth + births since. Milestones: the first instant the world series crossed each billion. "Right now" uses the same live projection as the counter at the top of the site.
